Our Youth Programs

These activites will resume when the COVID-19 pandemic is over.

BBAY (Burton Bridge Area Youth) is open to all youth in Grades 7-12.  It meets in the gymnasium of the Burton Elementary School every Wednesday from 6 - 7:30 pm.  We watch movies, play games, study the bible, and eat.  Join us. This activity has adult supervision. Returns in April. Check the website for the date.

Camp Hope is a summer camp open to children and teens.  Children in grades 1-6 are campers while 7th and 8th graders are our junior staffers.  High School students can apply for a Camp Hope staff position.  Camp Hope was held at our Greenvine churches (Greenvine Baptist and Greenvine Emmanual Lutheran) from June 17-28.  The average daily attendance in 2019 was 77!  The 2020 dates will be announced soon.

Our Senior Program

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused us to offer hot meals either through our drive-thru service or by delivery to the homebound.

Seniors (55+) are invited for fellowship and games on Fridays starting at 10 am.  We meet in the Family Life Center at St. John's United Church of Christ, 516 N. Colorado Street, Burton.  Our local EMS staff visit regularly to offer minor services, such as blood pressure measurement.  Bingo is played on the 2nd Friday of each month from 10:30-11:30 am. Lunch is served at noon for $4. For information on meal deliveries for homebound seniors, contact the Bridge Ministry Office at 979-337-3370.

Manna Ministry

With our partners, Brazos Valley Food Bank and Bread Partners, we offer a mobile food pantry once a month between 10 am and noon.  If you qualify for this program, your food carton can be picked up in the parking lot at the back of St. John's United Church of Christ, 516 N Colorado Street, Burton, Texas. Upcoming dates for the mobile food pantry:

  • August 21
  • September 18
  • October 16
  • November 13
  • December 11

Contact the Bridge Ministry Office for qualifications or just come by on Friday. The process is easy.  We continue to grow each month.

Helping Hands

This ministry helps the needy in our community make minor repairs to their homes.  We can build ramps to provide accessibility to homes.  To apply for assistance, contact the Burton Bridge Ministry Office.

The Corner Shoppe

The Corner Shoppe is our thrift store and offers a variety of clothing and household goods.  We need volunteers to work in the shop.  Contact Susie at 979-337-3370.

The annual (free) Community Thanksgiving Dinner was held on Sunday, Nov. 24.   We were entertained by the Hilltop Ramblers and St. John's UCC Praise Team.  The silent auction netted $1,742 which was used to provide Christmas meals for some of our families. Our first job fair scheduled for May 2020 was cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions on large gatherings.  The job fair will return when restrictions are lifted.  Small educational seminars are offered periodically.
